Luckin Coffee is expanding its presence in New York City by opening two new locations and introducing self-ordering kiosks, which provide an alternative to the mobile order app previously used for sales. Since its debut in New York last year, Luckin has grown to approximately 20 locations. The kiosks, prevalent in the U.S. fast-food sector, aim to attract a wider customer base. The new stores are located in Grand Central Terminal and at 48th and 3rd, both of which opened on Tuesday and will offer the chain’s full range of espresso-based beverages, teas, and specialty drinks. To entice customers, Luckin will provide free samples from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the first week of operation.

Founded in 2017, Luckin Coffee has rapidly expanded both domestically in China and internationally, boasting over 35,000 locations worldwide. The company employs a technology-driven approach, focusing on digital ordering platforms. The addition of kiosks may bolster its efforts in the highly competitive U.S. coffee market, where many leading chains feature coffee as their main offering. This strategic move comes as coffee remains a fiercely contested beverage category, particularly against established brands.
