‘Unique From Bean To Cup’: Inside A Tech-Forward Coffee Shop – CoffeeTalk
Hermetheus Coffee, a coffee shop in downtown Olathe, is set to open early next year at 101 S. Kansas Ave. The couple, Jason and Faith Scott, started their business after four years of roasting coffee at the Olathe Farmers Market. They named their business after their 7-year-old rescue dog, Hermie, and the name “Hermetheus Coffee” represents their venture together and with their community.
The shop will feature one-of-a-kind machinery, including a roasting “co-pilot” device that automates the manual heat knob of the roasting machine to ensure perfect temperature throughout. Customers can also roast their own beans using the touchscreen Novoroaster, which allows them to select raw coffee beans and specify how they want them roasted: dark, medium, or light. This unique experience is not your typical coffee shop experience, as customers have control of the process every step of the way.
The Scotts plan to focus on a simple coffee menu, including lattes and cold brews, and a small selection of grab and go food options. Their main goal is to build community within Olathe by being welcoming and non-judgmental. They aim to host community events to draw people of all walks in and provide opportunities for creatives to share their talents in the space.
The shop will have fewer than 25 seats inside and a few outside tables. The couple’s vision is to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment for customers to enjoy their coffee.
