World Coffee Research head Jennifer Long’s goal is to diversify coffee production to benefit farmers and drinkers. New beans are on the way.

World Coffee Research (WCR) has emphasized the need for more new coffee bean varieties to ensure that the market is not monopolised by a few countries or roasters offering limited choices. WCR’s chief executive, Jennifer “Vern” Long, believes that national governments, coffee companies, and consumers must all work together to raise awareness and execute scientific research for new coffee varieties. The Group of Seven most developed nations (G7) has agreed to provide financial support to coffee-bean-exporting countries, aiming to introduce these varieties by 2030. The funding will help these countries conduct research on new coffee varieties.
