Caffè Nero Switches Over 630 Stores to 100% Green Energy

Caffè Nero, a coffee house chain, has become Octopus Energy’s largest business customer, sourcing 100% green electricity to brew coffee with the power of the wind and sun. The independent family-owned coffee group is switching over 630 UK stores to Octopus’ ‘Electric Match’ tariff, which will enable them to make the most of affordable green energy. The energy will be sourced from three British solar and wind farms in Yorkshire, Wales, and Lincolnshire, managed by Octopus Energy’s generation arm.

The smart tariff, enabled by Octopus’s cutting-edge tech platform, Kraken, offers Caffè Nero a transparent and real-time cost of energy, often below wholesale prices. By tapping into abundant wind and solar power when it is cheapest, Caffè Nero can shift its energy usage to optimal times, maximizing savings. Octopus estimates that its ‘Electric Match’ tariff could slash Caffè Nero’s annual electricity bills in the UK by up to 17%.

The strategic partnership between Octopus and Caffè Nero began earlier this year, with the aim of promoting a more sustainable future for customers and employees. This latest news builds on the perks Octopus Energy customers already enjoy, such as a complimentary drink at Caffè Nero stores through the ‘Octoplus’ rewards scheme.
