Starbucks Announces Layoffs for Seattle Employees Who Did Not Want to Relocate to Nashville – CoffeeTalk

Starbucks is issuing another WARN notice covering 224 positions, specifically 104 support roles and 120 employees who opted not to relocate to Nashville. However, this notice does not signify a new wave of layoffs but concludes the global restructuring outlined by the company in May. The transformations affect teams associated with coffeehouse operations and design, as well as personnel in Seattle and other markets who declined relocation offers.

In May, Starbucks announced the reduction of approximately 300 U.S. support roles as part of its Back to Starbucks strategy, aiming to enhance business momentum and sustain profitable growth. Company representatives stated that leadership reviewed their operational functions to sharpen focus, simplify processes, and decrease costs.

Moreover, Starbucks indicated that it is assessing its international support organization, anticipating further changes beyond the U.S. This includes streamlining their real estate footprint by consolidating regional support office spaces and adjusting leases and commitments.

The restructuring initiative is projected to incur $400 million in costs, with $280 million in noncash expenses tied to long-lived assets and $120 million in cash-related charges, mainly for employee separation benefits. Notably, these real estate adjustments and restructuring costs do not pertain to the coffeehouse operations but rather to office closures in regional support areas.
