In downtown Beijing, the world’s first 24-hour intelligent unmanned coffee shop, 7Fresh Coffee, launched by JD.com, is showcasing cutting-edge robotics and artificial intelligence in consumer services. Situated in Galaxy SOHO, the shop operates entirely through automated processes, where robots grind beans, extract espresso, blend, pour, and serve coffee. Customers can order through a self-service kiosk or the JD App, and drinks are prepared in as little as 20 to 30 seconds, with a production capacity of seven to eight beverages simultaneously.

On its opening day, the shop made 202 cups within one hour, setting a Guinness World Record for continuous operation. Customer feedback highlighted the store’s futuristic atmosphere, efficiency, and enjoyment of the robotic coffee-making process. Prices for beverages range between 15 yuan ($2.2) and 20 yuan, and the menu includes coffee, sparkling water, tea, and probiotic juice.

A notable feature includes a DIY customization system, allowing patrons to tailor their drinks’ sweetness, coffee strength, and juice concentration from 1 to 100 percent. Additionally, an upcoming AI feature will offer personalized caffeine intake recommendations based on health conditions.

The store addresses traditional café challenges such as quality control, high labor costs, and limited hours by leveraging JD’s AI capabilities and automation, presenting an innovative solution for the cafe industry. According to Zhong Xiangyun, an observer in the humanoid robot industry, this opening reflects China’s rapid advances in AI-driven retail, potentially transforming the future of retail and boosting the city’s night economy. If successful, this model may redefine consumer experiences and operational standards in coffee shops and beyond.
