Reground celebrates million-puck milestone – BeanScene
Reground is celebrating more than 100 Sydney cafés and restaurants signing up for its Giving a Puck campaign, where spent coffee grounds are collected by Reground for delivery to local community gardeners and projects.
The Reground scheme was initially delivered to Sydney in partnership with local roaster Single O, after it initially launched in Melbourne in 2014 with a single café.
Reground says, as a result of the significant number of Sydney venues signing up for the service, more than one million coffee pucks in the city have been diverted from landfill, where they release methane – a greenhouse gas 30-times more harmful than CO2 – into the atmosphere.
Single O CEO, Mike Brabant, says milestones like this are worth celebrating in the pursuit of a more sustainable local coffee industry.
“Reaching 100 cafés across Sydney is an incredible milestone for Reground and the Giving a Puck movement,” says Mike.
“It’s a clear signal that our industry is taking waste seriously and this result shows what’s possible when cafés come on the journey together.
“It’s a strong step forward for coffee in Australia, and we’re proud to be part of it.
“Cheers to the legends at Reground.”
