Lavazza is Finally Ready to Bring Tabli, its Solid Coffee Tab Alternative to Single-Serve Coffee, to North America – CoffeeTalk
Two years back, Keurig unveiled an innovative coffee pod made from coffee byproducts, devoid of plastic. However, Lavazza, the renowned Italian coffee maker, has claimed the spotlight by launching its sustainable coffee product, Tabli, in North America. This introduces a solid coffee tab, marking a significant milestone as Lavazza’s most ambitious innovation in its 130-year history. Tabli, which follows its successful launch in Italy, is distinctive as it forgoes the traditional capsule and individual wrapping associated with typical single-serve coffee options like K-Cups. Instead, these tabs consist solely of compressed coffee, precisely dosed, ground, and tamped into a compact form ready for brewing.
The development of Tabli involved five years of dedicated research and the filing of over 15 patents. Its unique concave design allows the coffee to expand during brewing, yielding Lavazza’s “Crema Plus,” a creamy foam layer reminiscent of expertly pulled espresso. The brewing machine, crafted in Italy, facilitates a seamless user experience requiring no prior setup, grinding, or measuring.
Daniele Foti, VP of Marketing at Lavazza North America, emphasized that Tabli bridges the gap between convenience and quality, allowing an engaging multisensory coffee experience, where customers can appreciate its aroma, texture, and appearance before brewing. This product launch epitomizes Lavazza’s strategy for accelerated growth in the North American market, which Foti describes as one of the most dynamic globally. He asserted that this launch represents Lavazza’s boldest commitment to the US market, shaping future offerings.
The Tablì machine, priced at $100 with a preorder discount, has an elegant design that facilitates one-touch brewing. It accompanies a milk frother and a dedicated holder for the tabs. Individual tabs are priced between $0.70 and $1.15, with a launch bundle including the Tablì machine, milk frother, and a collection of 60 assorted tabs offered for $100 during the preorder phase, reduced from the regular price of $250.
