How Stamp Me helps coffee roasters support café growth – BeanScene
Why helping cafés keep their customers is more important to roasters than ever.
The best roasters don’t just make and supply amazing coffee, but help their wholesale customers build better businesses.
And it seems café operators value them for it. In a recent Stamp Me Loyalty survey of hospitality businesses, 49 per cent said they prefer to buy coffee beans from a roaster that also helps support their business growth.
Training, equipment support, technical assistance, marketing guidance, and operational advice can all play a part in helping a café run more smoothly, serve more consistently and build a stronger business.
“Beyond supplying coffee, we provide our wholesale café partners with practical support designed to improve coffee quality, consistency and overall business performance,” says Jimmy Evans of Artisti Coffee Roasters, a specialty roaster based in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales.
But if helping cafés build stronger businesses is already part of the modern roaster relationship, there may be another opportunity hiding in plain sight: helping those cafés keep more of the customers they already have.
The retention opportunity
Attracting new customers matters. But for a café to build a healthy, sustainable business, getting those customers to come back can matter even more.
“Customer retention is critical to a café’s long-term success because repeat customers provide consistent and predictable revenue, increase customer lifetime value and reduce the reliance on continually attracting new customers,” says Jimmy.
“Loyal customers also generate valuable word-of-mouth referrals, strengthen the café’s local reputation and help create resilience during slower periods.
“For most cafés, sustainable growth comes from delivering a consistently positive experience that keeps customers returning.”
For café operators, that challenge is very real.
“Being in a small town with a number of other cafés, it is always a constant challenge to provide exactly what the customer requires and keep our products at a competitive price,” says Tim Farrell of Buyi Espresso Bar in Old Bar, New South Wales.
And this is where the interests of cafés and their roasters increasingly overlap.
A café that can build a loyal customer base, generate strong repeat visitation and create more predictable revenue is more likely to remain a healthy business over time.
And a healthier café can also mean a stronger, more sustainable wholesale account for the roaster supplying it.
So, if roasters already help cafés make better coffee, train staff, improve operations and market their businesses, could helping them retain customers become another way to help their businesses succeed?

Loyalty as the next value-add
That is where customer loyalty enters the conversation.
Rather than asking roasters to become loyalty providers themselves, Stamp Me gives them a way to offer café partners access to a ready-made digital loyalty platform designed to encourage repeat visits, reward loyal customers and maintain engagement between purchases.
“Just as wholesale partners help cafés improve workflows, train staff, source equipment and develop marketing strategies, loyalty can become another practical tool available to operators looking to strengthen their business,” say Stamp Me Co-Founders Alan Donaldson and Shannon Magowan.
“Digital loyalty programs provide a way to recognise returning customers, create incentives for repeat purchases and maintain engagement between visits.”
For roasters, the opportunity can be another way to contribute to the long-term health of the businesses they supply – while potentially strengthening the wholesale relationship in the process.
There can also be a commercial upside. Through Stamp Me’s roaster partnership model, roasters can receive a referral rebate when café partners take up the platform, creating an opportunity to support their network while generating an additional revenue stream of their own.
“If wholesale partnerships are built on helping cafés succeed, then customer retention may be another area where roasters can make a meaningful contribution,” say Alan and Shannon.
And roasters may be particularly well placed to do it. By working across multiple venues, they have visibility into the challenges café operators face and the approaches that are working across their customer network.
“Roasters have access to a large number of venues that they can see what works and what doesn’t,” says Jimmy.
“It allows them to pass those things on to the cafés and help them all grow.”
For café operators, that kind of support can make a meaningful difference.
“It’s about the quality of not only Artisti’s coffee but the service and assistance they offer,” says Tim.
“The whole team is incredibly knowledgeable and go out of their way to help with anything they possibly can, not limited to just coffee but all things a café owner may need help with.
“I wouldn’t be in business today without the Artisti crew and all the support they have offered across all aspects of my business.”
For roasters already invested in the long-term success of their café partners, customer loyalty could be the next practical way to help them grow.
