Coffee Industry Heroes Awards introduces three new categories for 2027 – BeanScene
The Coffee Industry Heroes Awards, held in conjunction with the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE), will return in 2027 with three new categories recognising the people and businesses driving Australia’s coffee industry forward.
The additions – Origin Leader, Green Bean Connector and Innovator Award – expand the awards’ recognition across the coffee supply chain, highlighting the contribution of those working at origin, connecting producers with markets, and pushing the boundaries of coffee innovation.
The new categories follow the success of the 2026 awards program and reflect a commitment to recognising the breadth of talent and expertise that supports the industry.
MICE Show Leader and 2026 Awards Moderator Sarah Baker says the expanded awards program aims to recognise previously underrepresented parts of the coffee supply chain, while celebrating innovation across the Australian coffee industry.
“On the back of a successful awards program in 2026, it was important to reflect on the areas of the supply chain that weren’t represented and create award categories that honour what is arguably the heart of our industry – producers and green bean representatives,” she says.
“Equally, we want to honour the incredible creativity happening right here on Australian shores, and shine a light on the companies and individuals pushing the boundaries and taking product development to new heights.”
The three new categories will recognise distinct contributions across the industry.
Origin Leader celebrates farmers, producers and community leaders driving innovation in cultivation and processing, while creating lasting impact in coffee-growing regions.
Green Bean Connector recognises importers, traders and relationship builders who foster strong producer partnerships, champion quality, and connect exceptional coffees with the Australian and international markets.
The Innovator Award highlights individuals introducing new ideas, technologies, products or business models that advance how coffee is produced, prepared and experienced.
The 2027 awards will also retain six established categories:
- Community Champion
- Next-Gen Talent (30 years and under)
- Sustainability Champion
- Coffee Educator (Mentor)
- Best New Café
- Lifetime Achievement Award
Together, the nine categories celebrate the individuals and businesses making a positive contribution to the growth and evolution of Australia’s coffee community.
“There’s so much to celebrate about our wonderful industry, and now is the time to reflect and make your vote count before the silly season is upon us,” Sarah says.
“The Australian coffee community has always been championed by wonderful people, and it’s important to recognise their contributions and the positive impact they make to the growth and evolution of our industry.”
Nominating is simple and takes just a few minutes. Entrants are invited to share who their Coffee Industry Hero is, what they do, and why their contribution deserves recognition. Self-nominations are also welcome.
Nominations close on 13 November 2026.
