FROM STAFF REPORTS

Who says Halloween treats are just for kids? This month, tons of cafés have been brewing up spooky-themed drink specials, showing that adults deserve to have some Halloween fun, too. We asked our readers what haunting beverages they had bubbling behind the counter this year, so read on for a few of our favorites… if you dare.

Bow + Arrow Coffeehouse: Monster Matcha

If Frankenstein had a go-to café drink, it would be the Monster Matcha at Damascus, O.R.’s Bow + Arrow Coffeehouse. Crafted with matcha, lemonade, and blackberry syrup from Portland’s Holy Kakow, the drink is garnished with edible eyeballs for a frighteningly good time.

The Rose Room: Pumpkin Latte

When it comes to drinks, presentation is everything—and Webster, Mass.-based café The Rose Room is getting it right with their pumpkin latte, infused with house-made pumpkin syrup crafted with local pumpkins. For those local to the area, The Rose Room is also hosting a pumpkin latte art throwdown this weekend on Halloween.

Strong Brew Coffee Co.: The Dark Passenger + The Ice Truck Killer

Strong Brew Coffee Co. shares that their Halloween menu is inspired by the crime drama series Dexter. “We decided on a Dexter theme because, one, we love the show, and two, the new season is premiering on October 30th!” Kelsey Dominik, co-owner of the Berlin, N.J.-based café, shared with Barista Magazine.

Particularly spooky items on Strong Brew’s Dexter menu include The Dark Passenger—a raspberry mocha latte topped with raspberry cold foam and candy—and The Ice Truck Killer, a white chocolate latte topped with cake batter cold foam and rock candy.

The Eastern Squeeze: Cinderella Pumpkin Spice Latte

A dream is a wish your heart makes—and dreams really do come true with The Eastern Squeeze‘s Cinderella Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Wading River, N.Y.-based café/juice bar shows off their Halloween special, made with house-made pumpkin puree and pumpkin whipped cold foam.

Coffee King: Spooky Strawberry Matcha

In honor of spooky season, Coffee King has conjured up a haunting twist on their strawberry matcha. Writes the Deeside, Wales café: “Get yours before it vanishes!”

The Purrfect Bean: Sweet Potato Cat-sserole Latte

The Purrfect Bean, a plant-based cat café in Richmond, V.A., has transformed a beloved fall treat into a beverage with their Sweet Potato “Cat-sserole” Latte. The colorful drink is infused with purple sweet potato syrup and topped with vegan marshmallow cold foam—paw-sitively delightful.

goodboybob: Creature Feature

With locations in Southern California and New York, goodboybob has gone all-out for Halloween with their Creature Feature drink special: iced coffee with a cookies-and-cream cream top, finished with Oreo cookie dust, a gummy worm, and a rice paper spider.

Blue Door Coffee Company: Monster Mash Matcha + Witch’s Brew

Why limit yourself to one Halloween drink? Our hands are full of spooky fun with Blue Door Coffee Company‘s creepy creations. Venture into the Woodlands, T.X.-based café for their Monster Mash Matcha—matcha with ube milk and topped with black sesame cold foam—and Witch’s Brew: a chocolate and hazelnut latte topped with vanilla cream cheese cold foam and chocolate cereal.

Until next year…

Thank you to everyone who submitted their creative Halloween specials to Barista Magazine—until next year, stay spooky!
