MILKLAB uses “groundbreaking” method to reformulate popular product – BeanScene

Plant-based and dairy barista-milk brand MILKLAB has reformulated its Lactose Free product using a “groundbreaking” new ultrafiltration method.

MILKLAB says it has rebuilt its Lactose Free product from the ground up, using ultrafiltration to gently separate the milk via a fine filter. The method is said to reduce the amount of lactose in the milk while concentrating the protein and fat, which the company says results in “a smoother, creamier milk with better texture and performance in coffee”.

“We’re really proud of our reformulated MILKLAB Lactose Free,” says Natalie Latimore, MILKLAB Head of Marketing.

“After several years of working closely with baristas and coffee experts, and putting the product through extensive testing, our new ultrafiltration technology has delivered the much-loved taste of full cream dairy milk, in Lactose Free form.”

According to the company, the relaunch of Lactose Free was influenced by the increasing demand for lactose-free products in Australia. Australian Bureau of Statistics data from 2023 suggests 4.8 per cent of the population is dairy free, making it one of the most common food avoidance diets.

The launch coincides with MILKLAB’s national retail expansion, with the new Lactose Free rolling out into Woolworths stores across the country.

“As more Australians bring café-quality brewing home, they’re also seeking out the same café-grade milks they already know and trust, with MILKLAB perfectly placed to fill the gap for barista-quality coffee at home,” said the company in a statement.
