Oslo espresso bar Tim Wendelboe has topped the inaugural Europe’s 100 Best Coffee Shops list, which was announced on 25 June at World of Coffee Brussels in Belgium.

Austria’s Gota Coffee Experts was named runner-up, while the top five was rounded out by Spain’s Nomad Frutas Selectas, France’s Tanat, and Ireland’s Coffeewerk + Press.

In February, the eponymous Norwegian espresso bar and roastery founded by 2004 World Barista Champion Tim Wendelboe placed second in the second edition of the World’s Best Coffee Shop rankings. More than 15,000 venues were evaluated, with the selection process combining 70 per cent expert assessment and 30 per cent public voting.

Launched in February 2025, The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops is a global recognition program in which coffee shops are judged on the quality of their coffee, barista expertise, customer service, innovation, ambience and atmosphere, sustainability practices, food and pastry quality, and consistency.

Since the introduction of the global rankings, continental lists have been launched for Europe, South America, and North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Since opening in 2007, Tim Wendelboe has become a destination for specialty coffee enthusiasts. Located in Oslo’s Grünerløkka neighbourhood, it is known for its minimalist design, single-origin coffees, and direct-trade relationships with producers.
