In the era of social media, where online activism can too easily replace tangible progress, evolving movements are showing how digital platforms can be used as tools to enact real-life, positive change. Exemplifying this is Oakland-based roastery Mimo’s Coffee, which is partnering with Post on Purpose to raise funds for Coco Coalition: a nonprofit dedicated to the liberation, empowerment, and well-being of Black women.
Running through May 22, 2026, the campaign aims to raise more than $500 to support Coco Coalition’s programs for holistic wellness, mental health advocacy, and community-building for Black women, both within the U.S. and around the world.
The best part about the campaign is that anyone can get involved, simply by posting on social media.

How to Participate
Getting involved with the campaign is intentionally simple:
- First, post a coffee photo or Reel on Instagram
- Use the hashtags #cococoalition and #impactasnap
- Every post will trigger a real $5 donation to Coco Coalition
Participants can track the challenge, donation progress, and campaign activity through a live public dashboard.

About Mimo’s Coffee, Post on Purpose, and Coco Coalition
Founded by Mimo Haile Smith, Mimo’s Coffee is an Oakland-based roastery that specializes in single-origin Ethiopian coffee. The coffee company pays homage to Mimo’s mother, Rahel, founder of long-standing Ethiopian spice and coffee shop, WE Spice. Inspired by her mother’s journey from Addis Ababa, Mimo founded the roastery to bridge the experience between her Ethiopian heritage and her new home in the U.S.
Launched in 2018 by Becca Ruiz, Post on Purpose is a digital platform that hosts “public challenges,” allowing participants to raise real donations for trusted nonprofits simply by posting on social media. “Together, we can make Instagram a place for positivity, creativity, and purpose,” shares Post on Purpose on their website.
Since 2015, nonprofit Coco Coalition has been committed to creating safe spaces for female-identifying Black women and expanding their access to community and health resources. To date, the organization has hosted 38 events for Black women covering 8 cities in 5 states and 3 countries. Since 2020, they have granted 13 scholarship awards to women studying mental health, civic engagement, or the arts in the U.S. And, as part of their Coco Cares initiative, the organization has provided over 100 girls in Ghana with menstrual supplies to combat period poverty.
