Puroast Coffee Granted Patent For Low Acid Coffee Roasting Process – CoffeeTalk
The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently awarded a System and Method Patent to Puroast Coffee Company, Inc. for their distinctive low acid coffee roasting process. This patent, granted this month, covers all steps utilized in their roasting technology, making it the only active patent specifically for producing low acid coffee. Puroast’s CEO, Kerry Sachs, emphasized that this milestone underscores their pioneering role in inventing the low acid coffee category through their unique roasting process. He indicated that this innovation enables Puroast to strategically expand into various markets.
Research conducted by three separate studies, two from the University of California, Davis, and one from North Carolina A&T, illustrates that Puroast’s coffee has 70% less acid compared to other brands, reinforcing their competitive edge. These studies are available on their website, highlighting their commitment to transparency and factuality surrounding the low acidity of their coffee products.
James Sachs, COO and co-founder of Puroast, noted that their roasting technology is fundamental to their business. He claimed that the intellectual property associated with Puroast Coffee assures exceptional taste and authenticity, particularly important for a growing consumer base concerned about gastric issues associated with coffee consumption, such as GERD and acid reflux. He also condemned other brands that misrepresent their low acid coffee, insisting that consumers and authorities should hold these brands accountable for food fraud.
Furthermore, Puroast has maintained a history of providing scientific and technical support through collaborations with food science and medical experts. Dr. Salam Ibrahim highlighted that published studies confirm Puroast’s significantly lower acid levels when compared to commercial brands, which generally possess five times more acid on a pH basis than Puroast coffee.
Puroast Coffee’s dedication to transparency in their practices aligns with a national trend towards honesty and health in food and beverage industries, and the company is actively working with various organizations to promote consumer awareness in these critical areas.
