Robusta Price Instability Worries Indian Coffee Growers – CoffeeTalk

Global coffee prices, particularly Robusta, are experiencing a steady decline, causing concern among Indian growers who were expecting a price surge during June and July. Robusta coffee was once fetching up to Rs 500 per kg, but now it is around Rs 360 per kg. This has led to many growers worrying about incurring losses. In the London market, the price of Robusta fell by over $400 per tonne in the past week, now trading at $3,737 per tonne. Arabica coffee prices in the New York market have dipped to 315 cents per pound from a peak of over 400 cents in March. This trend is particularly distressing for coffee estate owners who have been investing heavily in plantation maintenance. Small-scale farmers have been forced to sell their beans at the lowest prices seen in a year. Brazil, the world’s largest Arabica coffee producer, has already completed 30% of its harvest, including a significant volume of Robusta, adding to the price fluctuation in the global market. International coffee organizations predict that global Arabica production may decrease next year, but Robusta production is expected to rise, further affecting prices.
