Starbucks is reintroducing the pumpkin spice latte as part of its fall product lineup to counter two quarters of same-store sales declines. The latte returns on August 22 for the 21st year, alongside a new iced apple nondairy cream chai and two other apple beverages exclusively available on its app. Starbucks is also announcing the appointment of Brian Niccol as CEO, who is expected to become one of the highest-paid CEOs in the US. Niccol will face inflation-weary consumers, escalating wait times, and staffing changes that have angered loyal customers. The autumn drinks aim to meet demand for seasonal beverages while catering to Gen Z and millennials’ preference for tea-based, cold, and nondairy beverages. Starbucks reported a 28% increase in drink customization in the latest quarter compared to the previous year.
