Phoenix Coffee Roaster Acquires Panama Farm – CoffeeTalk
Phoenix specialty coffee wholesaler and retailer Press Coffee has acquired a 70-hectare coffee farm in the Volcan Valley in western Panama, aiming to improve its sourcing for its product served in the Valley. The company had been in the process of buying the farm for a year, and co-owner Jason Kyle said the company was excited to make specialty grade coffee from the farm. The press estate, located in a region known for its distinctive coffees due to its fertile soils and proximity to the Barú volcano, has an elevation ranging from 1,800 to 2,300 meters above sea level, allowing it to produce multiple types of coffee beans.
Press Coffee will be busy with this acquisition, but the company is not opposed to acquiring more farms in Central America. The first beans from the Panama farm will be shipped in November, and the new Press Estate beans will be available on drip at all Press locations in metro Phoenix or in bags of whole beans.
Press Coffee is not the first coffee retailer and wholesaler to buy its own farm, but Kyle believes it makes sense due to the company’s strong retail and wholesale business. Acquiring the farm not only lowers costs but also gives the company more control over its product from the beginning of the process.
