An Indonesian coffee chain, Kopi Kenangan, which has prominent investors like Serena Williams and Jay-Z, is exploring the possibility of an initial public offering (IPO) that may value the company at up to $1 billion. Currently, talks with banks regarding this potential listing are in preliminary stages, with specific details about timing and size yet to be finalized. Singapore is being considered as one of the possible locations for the IPO, although no banks have been officially appointed to oversee the process as of now.

Junxian Li, the vice president of corporate finance and development at Kopi Kenangan, mentioned in an email that the company continuously assesses various strategic and financial options to aid its growth and create monetization opportunities for shareholders. He emphasized that engaging with financial institutions, investors, and advisors is a routine part of managing a business at their current stage, and no decisions regarding the IPO have been made at this point regarding its timing, location, or valuation.

Kopi Kenangan, which was established in 2017 and focuses on sourcing its coffee beans exclusively from Indonesia, operates in six countries: Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Australia. As per co-founder and Group Chief Executive Edward Tirtanata’s LinkedIn post from January, the company’s net revenue for 2025 projected a 45% increase from the previous year, reaching $184 million, while net profit is expected to be $17 million. With over 1,300 stores operating worldwide, the company has plans to open an additional 550 stores in 2026.

Tirtanata also indicated in his post that the company is eager to begin acting like a public entity even before the actual IPO, although he refrained from providing details about any prospective offerings. Notably, Williams and Jay-Z had invested in Kopi Kenangan back in 2019 through their investment entities, Serena Ventures and Roc Nation.
