Ethiopian Director General Adugna Debela (PhD) has highlighted the importance of agriculture in Africa’s economy and the potential of the coffee sector. African coffee production contributes around 12% of global coffee bean output, creating job opportunities and increasing export revenue. Ethiopia’s coffee exports have surpassed one billion dollars, highlighting the potential for collective success among coffee-producing nations. Adugna urged member countries to take coordinated and transparent actions to boost coffee exports while ensuring sustainable production practices. He stressed the need to adhere to new European Union regulations, such as the EUDR and CS3D, which impact coffee exports to European markets. Ethiopia is committed to maintaining deforestation-free supply chains and sustainable forest management to enhance export capabilities. Adugna also highlighted the importance of partnerships between public and private sectors in advancing Africa’s coffee industry, highlighting successful collaborations with organizations like UNIDO.
