SCA release updated rules and regulations for 2025 WBC

1

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has released the updated rules and regulations for the 2025 World Barista Championship (WBC), due to take place from 17 to 21 October at HostMilano in Milan, Italy.

The updates principally outline the alignment of competitor registration and complaint procedures with the other World Coffee Championships, which now require submission by online form. Furthermore, the definition of espresso has been updated for greater flexibility, and to ensure consistency in judging there are additional penalties to clarify common practices.

What’s more, to further align with all 2025 World Coffee Championships, the appeals and complaints process for both Competition Body and World-level events has been streamlined. These updates finalise the group of rules and regulations for the seven World Coffee Championships taking place in 2025.

In 2025, WBC celebrates its 25th edition. Throughout this year’s competition series, the SCA will honour the many hands who have helped shape the competition over its quarter-century history.

The updated WBC rules and regulations are overseen by the WCC Competitions Strategic Committee. The full rules and regulations can be viewed here. Read about the World Coffee Roasting Championship updates here.
