Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies answering the call of Australia’s pie lovers
New research proves Australia is a nation of pie lovers, and Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies is delivering the goods to cafés and hospitality venues across the country.
A recent survey from MamaMag found that 70 per cent of Australians eat a pie at least once a month, with up to 30 per cent of Aussies indulging in them weekly.
Victorians and Tasmanians were found to be the biggest pie eaters, with 33 per cent eating at least one pie a week. New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory followed closely with 32 per cent, South Australia and Northern Territory came in at 31 per cent, Western Australia trailed behind with 26 per cent, and finally Queenslanders were the least frequent pie eaters at just 25 per cent.
Jim Myers, Co-owner of Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies, is well aware of Australians’ appetite for pies.
“At Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies we are busy year-round. We recently opened a new outlet at Queen Victoria Market and hired a new chef to help our team keep up with the demand,” he says.
Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies is a relatively new brand, established in regional Victoria during the COVID-19 lockdowns, when Jim and team delivered healthy homemade pies to residents of the Albury-Wodonga region.
Four years on, the company has gone from strength to strength, with three of its own café venues in Albury, Wodonga, and Beechworth, plus two outlets in Melbourne at Prahran Market and Queen Victoria Market, as well as a network of wholesale partners that stock its handmade pies.
“At Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies, all our pies are restaurant quality and made with absolute health in mind. We ensure our chefs don’t add any sugar, preservatives, artificial colours, flavours, or seed oils,” says Jim.
Since its inception, Miss Amelie Gourmet Pies has won The Best Gourmet Pie in Australia in The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition 2022. Additionally, in Australia’s Best Pie competition, it scooped 14 medals across gold, silver and bronze categories in 2021 and 2022.
The family business offers a huge range of creative flavours, including beef cheek and red wine, butter chicken, cauliflower and triple cheese mornay, Moroccan style slow-cooked lamb, Chinese barbecue pork belly, and Tasmanian scallop and prawn mornay.
