McCafé celebrates 30th birthday with free coffee

McDonald’s is celebrating McCafé’s 30-year anniversary with the launch of a limited-time birthday cake flavoured latte on 24 May, and coffee giveaways for Australian customers.

The latte features McCafé’s signature blend sourced from 100 per cent Rainforest Alliance Certified farms in Brazil, Honduras, Kenya, and Ethiopia, combined with cake flavours.

“One of the innovations we’re most proud of at McDonald’s Australia is McCafé, a homegrown idea that has turned into a global success. With over 1000 locations in Australia, McCafé is now one of the largest coffee retailers in the country, representing an impressive one in every four coffees sold in Australia,” says Lancy Huynh, Group Brand Manager for McDonald’s Australia.

“It’s a brand that was created by coffee lovers for coffee lovers, so we are extremely proud to celebrate this milestone with the experts that helped shape it – our customers right here in Australia.”

From 24 May to 6 June, customers in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Townsville will score free coffee with the McCafé coffee van going on tour along the eastern seaboard.

The birthday tour will kick off on Guilfoyle Lawn in Melbourne’s Botanic Gardens on 24 May, serving free coffee to the public from 6am to 2pm. It will then visit Mrs Macquarie’s Chair in Sydney on 30 May to serve free coffee from 5:30am to 2pm. The next location the coffee van will stopover at is Brisbane Marathon, City Botanic Gardens in Brisbane on 4 June to serve free coffee from 5am to 1pm. Finally, the van will visit Strand Park in Townsville on 6 June, serving free coffee from 5:30am to 2pm.

Over the past 30 years, McCafé has produced 1026 stores across Australia and more than 4000 in 60 countries across the world.

Today, it serves up more than 230 million cups of barista-made coffee and hot drinks in a year – over 630,000 a day, with approximately three billion cups served over the past 30 years.
