For decades, premium espresso equipment has fit neatly into two categories: commercial machines built for cafés and restaurants, and prosumer machines designed for serious coffee enthusiasts at home. Rocket believes that distinction is becoming increasingly outdated.
As specialty coffee has matured, expectations have changed. Guests checking into boutique hotels, shoppers visiting luxury retailers, diners lingering after dinner, and clients walking into design studios increasingly expect the same quality espresso they’d receive at their favorite café. At the same time, many of these businesses don’t need—or have room for—a traditional commercial espresso setup.
That changing landscape inspired Rocket’s “Beyond Home” campaign and the development of Bicocca, a machine designed to bridge the gap between professional performance and adaptable design. Rather than asking where an espresso machine belongs, Rocket is asking a different question: Where could great coffee happen?
“For us, ‘Beyond Home’ isn’t about leaving the domestic environment,” Silvia Tracogna, marketing manager, explains. “It’s about redefining where a prosumer espresso machine belongs.”
Espresso Wherever People Gather

Rocket sees an emerging category of hospitality businesses in which coffee may not be the primary focus but remains an essential part of the customer experience. Boutique hotels. Bakeries. Wine bars. Design studios. Premium retail spaces. Each wants to serve memorable espresso without operating a full-scale coffee bar.
“We’re seeing more spaces where coffee isn’t the main business, yet the expectation for espresso quality is exactly the same,” Silvia says. “Bicocca was developed to answer that need, combining the thermal stability, control, and workflow of a prosumer machine with dimensions and usability that make it adaptable to a wide variety of environments.”
Silvia also points to another cultural shift: today’s coffee drinkers understand extraction, recognize roast differences, and have become increasingly discerning. Whether they’re ordering coffee in a café or a boutique hotel lobby, they expect consistency and quality.
Built Around the Cup
Although Bicocca presents a striking visual departure from many traditional espresso machines, Simona Papaluca, product specialist for Rocket, says engineering—not aesthetics—came first. “Rather than focusing on individual technologies, we started from the result we wanted in the cup: repeatable extractions,” Simona says.
That philosophy shaped every technical decision. The machine features a dual stainless-steel boiler system, an electrically heated group, precise temperature management, a rotary pump, and the flexibility to operate from either a built-in water tank or a direct water connection. A new 3.5-inch touchscreen interface allows users to manage temperatures, recipes, maintenance routines, and user settings through an intuitive, largely text-free interface.
Rather than overwhelming users with complexity, Rocket designed the interface around the parameters that matter most. “Every feature exists to support consistency rather than adding unnecessary complexity,” Simona explains.
That balance becomes particularly important in environments where espresso isn’t prepared by a dedicated barista. “The quality of an espresso shouldn’t depend entirely on who’s standing behind the machine,” Simona says. Stable brewing temperatures, programmable recipes, and an intuitive interface allow experienced users to fine-tune every variable while giving hospitality staff confidence that each drink will be reproduced consistently with minimal intervention.
Design with Purpose

Rocket has long been known for combining Italian craftsmanship with polished industrial design, and Bicocca continues that tradition while introducing an entirely new visual language for the company.
Handmade in Milan, the machine draws inspiration from the city’s Bicocca district, an area where historic architecture, universities, design, and contemporary culture intersect.
Its bold, geometric side panels reference Renaissance ashlar stonework, creating an architectural appearance intended to communicate solidity and precision. Rather than decorative styling, Rocket says those design choices reflect the engineering inside.
“The technical architecture, thermal system, and workflow defined the machine first. The design followed those decisions rather than the other way around,” Simona explains. Even small details reinforce the user experience, from the ergonomically positioned cylindrical group head to the cleanly designed steam and hot-water wands and hidden “Easter egg” tucked into the cup warmer area celebrating the people behind Rocket.
Beyond Traditional Hospitality

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Rocket’s campaign is how broadly customers have interpreted the phrase “Beyond Home.” While Bicocca has naturally found homes in boutique hospitality settings, users have also taken it in unexpected directions.
“One of our friends recently used Bicocca to prepare espresso for cyclists directly from the back of his car,” Simona shares. “Another installed the machine inside a traditional Italian Ape during a music festival, creating a fully mobile espresso bar.”
Those examples illustrate Rocket’s broader point: exceptional espresso shouldn’t be confined to traditional cafés.
Looking Ahead
Silvia sees Bicocca as more than a single product launch. The company believes specialty coffee will continue expanding into environments where high-quality espresso once seemed unlikely, provided those spaces have equipment capable of delivering repeatable, café-quality results.
“We believe we’ll continue to see specialty coffee appearing in places where, until recently, nobody expected to find it,” Silvia says. “The challenge isn’t simply making espresso more accessible; it’s preserving the standards that define specialty coffee in the first place.”
In many ways, Bicocca represents that philosophy in machine form. It offers the precision demanded by coffee professionals while remaining approachable enough for businesses where coffee complements, rather than defines, the customer experience.
For Rocket, that’s what “Beyond Home” ultimately means: not leaving the home behind, but expanding into the places where thoughtfully prepared espresso can be enjoyed. And as the boundaries between cafés, hospitality, retail, and lifestyle spaces continue to blur, that vision may be only the beginning.
