Coffee Badging Trend Creates Opportunities For OCS Operators – CoffeeTalk

Coffee badging is a concept that has been growing in the workplace due to the resistance-oriented attitude of employees. According to Tracy Brower, Ph.D., people experience plummeting motivation and perceived obstacles when forced to do something, which contributes to the concept of coffee badging. Free food can be an effective way to keep the coffee-badging crowd in the office longer. Operators can sell the concept of using free or subsidized breakfasts and lunches to keep the coffee-badging crowd in the office longer.

Officers must balance return-to-work mandates with employees who just want to work at home. To leverage food to bring people back to the office and serve up engagement, well-being, and a thriving office culture, operators can create a cadence, create a draw, and create events.

1. Create a predictable routine: Offer food regularly to plan days in the office, meetings, lunches, and connections with colleagues. Make it about a predictable routine where people come together over food.
2. Create a draw: Be creative about what you offer, such as offering delicious Caesar salad every Wednesday or make-your-own ice cream sundaes to surprise people and welcome spring.
3. Create events: Use food as part of meaningful events, such as sponsoring iced tea and cheese gatherings for executives to mix with new employees or a progressive late-afternoon tasting event for interns to visit multiple departments and meet people in the field.

Operators can turn coffee badging into “coffee, snack, and lunch badging” by offering enticing offerings and promoting their value as providers. This will be a big win for employers and operators alike.
