Starbucks baristas at a Seattle Starbucks have officially gone on strike to protest unresolved unfair labor practices. The strike began at 11 a.m. Tuesday, and was part of a nationwide picket fighting for improved wages, staffing, and protections. The baristas, along with community allies and former Starbucks employees, occupy the lobbies of multiple stores. Starbucks Workers United has not reported any arrests related to the Seattle protests. This is not the first multi-state coordinated strike against Starbucks launched by Starbucks Workers United. In December, 5,000 baristas shut down more than 300 stores nationwide, including Seattle. In late December, the largest strike in Starbucks history occurred when 5,000 baristas shut down more than 300 stores nationwide. Starbucks Workers United has called for Starbucks to return to bargaining a foundational framework with a mediator present. The strike is part of a larger nationwide effort by Starbucks Workers United to demand improved wages, staffing, and protections for its baristas.
