The Ca Mau Petroleum Fertilizer Corporation has initiated a strategic workshop entitled “Protecting Robusta from Extreme Weather” in Dak Doa commune, Gia Lai province. This initiative aligns with efforts to tackle the growing challenges faced by Robusta coffee production due to increasingly erratic weather patterns, aiming to enhance the adaptability and resilience of farmers in their respective areas.

Key issues outlined include the influence of weather on the growth stages of Robusta coffee plants, where variations in rainfall, temperature, and humidity can significantly impact yield, quality, and the economic viability of farmers. The workshop, co-organized with experts from the Western Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute, sought to bridge market needs with scientific and technical solutions. The event highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among farmers and businesses to mitigate the losses incurred from erratic weather by improving communication about harvesting and storage conditions.

From a technical standpoint, the workshop focused on the adverse effects of extreme weather events such as droughts, heatwaves, and heavy rains on coffee cultivation. Featured solutions included various adaptive strategies such as effective irrigation management, moisture retention through mulching, the use of shade trees, and proper canopy pruning. Participants also engaged in hands-on practices within coffee plantations, where they learned to utilize the 2Nong application for weather forecasts, nutrition information, and tailored cultivation strategies.

The workshop emphasized that proper nutrient management is essential for maintaining the health and resilience of Robusta plants, particularly under harsh conditions. PVCFC has continually innovated its product offerings, including advanced fertilizers such as Ca Mau Urea and Ca Mau NPK, aimed at addressing diverse agricultural needs and improving overall plant health. The incorporation of the 2Nong application is designed to assist farmers in optimizing fertilization schedules based on real-time weather insights and technical guidance.

By fusing nutritional solutions with digital technology and expert advice, PVCFC aims to fortify the robustness of Vietnamese Robusta coffee against extreme weather challenges. This comprehensive approach not only aims to enhance farming efficiency and crop quality but also seeks to elevate the overall market value and competitiveness of Vietnamese Robusta coffee, securing its place in a global agricultural context.
