ICO Launches Interactive Platform to Centralize Global Coffee Market Data – CoffeeTalk
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has introduced the Coffee Market Intelligence Platform, a new digital tool designed to centralize data related to the global coffee market. The platform integrates daily market indicators with monthly trade, annual production, and consumption statistics. Its aim is to provide a comprehensive resource for producers, traders, policymakers, journalists, and other stakeholders to access market information.
Historically, coffee market data has been dispersed across various sources. Vanúsia Nogueira, ICO Executive Director, stated that while robust data cannot eliminate market fluctuations, it can contribute to reducing uncertainty, potentially aiding decision-making in areas such as production, investment, trade, risk management, and sustainability.
The platform provides an accessible format for coffee statistics, including the ICO Composite Indicator Price (I-CIP) and its four group indicators, futures prices from New York and London, monthly exchange-certified stocks, detailed trade information, and annual production and consumption data. It incorporates an interactive 3D globe for data visualization, presenting the market as a connected system.
Nogueira also noted that coffee supports an estimated 12.5 million families and a global value chain. Improved access to reliable information may assist farmers in making investment decisions.
Export data for the platform is primarily gathered from ICO Members, who provide Certificates of Origin for shipments and report monthly export statistics. Importing countries also submit their statistics, which are cross-referenced with partner-country customs data and national records. Production and consumption figures are derived from official national estimates and the ICO’s own assessments, with data reconciled to ensure internal consistency in supply-demand balances.
The platform’s dashboards offer free access to current-year prices, stock data, and aggregated trade and production statistics for current and previous years. ICO Members have access to historical data extending back to 1963. Intergovernmental organizations and academic researchers may also request relevant information. Commercial organizations requiring detailed historical data or bulk datasets can acquire an annual statistical subscription.
