Hospitality spending continues to rise – BeanScene

New data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) indicates total household spending rose 1.1 per cent in July 2026, marking the third consecutive month of growth.

Compared to the same time last year, household spending has risen more than seven per cent, which is the highest annual growth rate recorded since June 2023.

ABS Head of Business Statistics Tom Lay says growing hospitality spend is one of the key drivers of the recent growth.

“This was the third consecutive monthly rise in household spending, led by recreation and culture, food, hotels, cafés and restaurants, and health,” he says.

Seasonally adjusted, the biggest increases by region when compared to June 2026 were the Northern Territory (up 2.2 per cent), Western Australia (up 1.5 per cent), and Victoria (up 1.3 per cent).

Hotels, cafés, and restaurants was the third biggest driver of spend growth in Western Australia, accounting for two per cent of the rise.

No state or territory recorded a lower household spend in the hotel, café, and restaurant category when compared to June 2026.
