Luckin Coffee Opens a Third Colossal Roastery in China – CoffeeTalk
Luckin Coffee has inaugurated a new smart roasting facility in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, with an investment of $440 million (RMB 3 billion) aimed at enhancing its global supply chain capabilities. This advanced roasting center boasts cutting-edge technology, including the world’s largest single coffee roaster and high-capacity in-house packaging equipment, thereby setting a benchmark across Asia.
The facility incorporates a fully automated production model, ensuring controlled conditions of temperature and humidity in its smart warehousing. It also utilizes the FRTO (Flameless Regenerative Thermal Oxidation) system, a sustainable approach that supports the ongoing evolution towards digital manufacturing and carbon-efficient operations. Luckin Coffee has designed the center to meet China’s Three-Star Green Building standard and has achieved LEED Platinum certification, highlighting its dedication to eco-friendly and low-carbon production processes.
The strategic location of the facility at Qingdao Port, one of China’s vital foreign trade hubs, facilitates direct and efficient logistics for the import of green coffee beans from prominent coffee-producing countries such as Brazil, Colombia, and Ethiopia. This setup allows for seamless transportation from the origins of raw coffee to Luckin’s production plants.
The establishment of this roasting center further integrates Luckin’s comprehensive roasting network, which includes additional sites in Pingnan and Kunshan, as well as a facility currently under construction in Xiamen, with a total anticipated roasting capacity exceeding 155,000 tons. This expansion signifies a critical step in Luckin Coffee’s full value chain deployment, enhancing its operational efficiencies and market reach.
