World Coffee Research And Community Coffee Partner To Tackle Climate Change Challenges – CoffeeTalk
Community Coffee, the top family-owned premium retail coffee brand in America, has partnered with World Coffee Research (WCR), a research-driven organization focusing on improving coffee’s productivity, quality, and climate resilience while supporting farmer livelihoods. As a founding member of WCR, Community Coffee aims to shape long-term sustainability in the coffee industry and support global producers. WCR’s data indicates that the global coffee industry could face a supply shortage of millions of bags as early as 2030 due to climate change challenges. Community Coffee, in 2012, joined forces with other industry leaders to establish WCR.
WCR aims for a more diverse supply by breeding and distributing new coffee varieties relevant to different growing environments in origins across the world. The first waves of new WCR coffee varieties will arrive at farms across the globe as early as 2036, with approved varieties delivered to farmers every three years. Community Coffee has been a foundational leader in WCR’s work to advance agricultural research and development in coffee, as they are committed to the families that produce it. WCR recognizes the value of investing in the future of coffee and serves as a bridge to producers worldwide.
