SunDance, a printing and packaging company, has enhanced its flexible packaging offerings by introducing bespoke coffee pouches that feature degassing valves. This innovative format integrates valve technology with digital printing, allowing clients to order stock based on actual demand rather than committing to large batch sizes. The pouches are designed with a one-way mechanism that enables the release of carbon dioxide from roasted coffee beans while preventing oxygen from entering, thus preserving the flavor, aroma, and overall quality of the product during transportation, storage, and display.

Targeting niche coffee roasters, emerging brands, seasonal offerings, limited-edition blends, subscription services, and new product rollouts, these custom pouches offer flexibility and adaptability. SunDance states that clients can personalize the exterior with tailored graphics, messaging, and product information. Although mainly intended for ground and whole-bean coffee, the pouches are also suitable for other dry goods and specialty food items that require effective odor and freshness retention.

JohnHenry Ruggieri, president of SunDance, emphasized the need for coffee brands to have packaging that not only protects product quality but also allows for business growth flexibility. Additionally, last month, the company expanded the application of its POUCH³ flexible packaging solution into the cereal market. The POUCH³ system features a patented cuboid design that merges the visual benefits of a box with progressive material utilization, pack graphics, and logistics management. Unlike traditional stand-up pouches, POUCH³ maintains a box-like appearance while providing six printable surfaces for branding. This distinctive feature is aimed at enhancing shelf presence.
