Starbucks' New Compostable Cups Not Received Well By Customers – CoffeeTalk

Starbucks has replaced its transparent single-use plastic to-go cups with opaque white compostable ones in 14 states, including California, Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota, Arizona, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Michigan, Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, South Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia. The change is part of Starbucks’ sustainability goals and compliance with local law mandates. However, many Starbucks customers are unhappy with the new lids, claiming they are difficult to drink out of and may stop people from ordering “TikTok drinks” due to the lack of a clear cup.

For those who don’t want to use the new cups, Starbucks offers an alternative option: customers can bring their own reusable cup or order their beverage “for here” to have it served in a ceramic mug or glass. Starbucks recently reinstated its free refill policy, but customers must stay at the coffee shop to receive free refills during their visit.

Customers must have their first drink served in one of these reusable cups in order to receive free refills. The switch-up is a step in the right direction for the company’s sustainability goals and complies with local law mandates.
