Starbucks Introduces New AI Assistant 'Green Dot Assist' To Streamline Barista Workflow – CoffeeTalk
Starbucks has introduced a new AI-powered assistant called “Green Dot Assist” to assist baristas in finding quicker solutions to tasks that can hinder customer service. The feature, powered by Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI platform, allows partners to access real-time information on shift planning, coaching, store performance, standards, troubleshooting, and seasonal beverage ingredients. The tech initiative was announced at Leadership Experience 2025 (LE25) in Las Vegas, where Starbucks is bringing together over 14,000 coffeehouse leaders from across North America. The initiative will pilot in 35 stores, with a broader rollout in the company’s U.S. and Canadian locations in fiscal year 2026.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol plans to help boost its brand and sales by investing in technology that enhances the partner and customer experience, improves the supply chain, and evolves its app and mobile ordering platform. The company’s digital ordering system, which has been a sore spot due to inaccurate wait times and congestion, is being redesigned to focus on handcrafted coffee, human connection, and a relentless focus on excellence.
In addition to Green Dot Assist, Starbucks has also announced a next-gen point-of-sale system designed to reduce training time and drink remakes while enhancing workflow. The system features improved accessibility with removed language barriers and customer personalization.
