Memphis Company Brews Community And Culture Through Coffee’s African Roots – CoffeeTalk

CXFFEEBLACK, a community-oriented, multi-disciplinary, education-based coffee company, is a global movement aiming to reclaim the stolen human history of coffee by reconnecting to its African roots and remixing it through Memphis culture. The company takes a lot of time behind the design, naming, and curation to create products that lead to exploration of the coffee’s origins and the people who produced it. They host a monthly Anti-Gentrification Coffee Club, designed to feel familiar to the communities and build curiosity about the coffee industry.

For the last three years, CXFFEEBLACK has offered internships for ages 16-30, learning the craft of making coffee and e-commerce product development. They use cultural assets for all of their products, making the experience larger than what it is. They also started the Barista Exchange Program, taking four Black American baristas to Ethiopia and Rwanda and currently hosting African baristas in Memphis. Brown Missionary Baptist Church and the Mid-South Genesis CDC donated $1,000 to CXFFEEBLACK, as curiosity about where your coffee comes from can build lasting relationships.
