Korean Consumers Frustrated By Coffee Price Hikes From Low-Cost Brands – CoffeeTalk
Coffee lovers in Seoul are frustrated by the price hikes of low-cost brands, including Mega Coffee, which plans to increase the price of a large Americano by 300 won ($0.2) starting on April 21. The increase is unavoidable due to the increase in global coffee bean prices, as most of its peers have increased prices long ago. The coffee chain said that it cannot do that anymore due to the input material cost surge.
Mega Coffee, operated by Mega MGC Coffee, is among many coffee lovers frustrated by the price hikes. The chain said that most of its peers increased prices long ago, but they held out because they can’t do that anymore because of the input material cost surge.
Twosome Place, Starbucks, and Paul Bassett, upscale coffee brands, have already hiked or are planning to raise prices by about 5%. The price of Nespresso capsules, which are used for Nespresso coffee brewing machines, also rose by 11.8% this year.
