Charity Bazaars Leverage Coffee To Help Migrant Kids And Autistic Children – CoffeeTalk
Two charitable coffee bazaars took place in Changning District, China, as part of the city’s “Warmth of a Cup of Coffee” charity-themed events. The bazaars attracted public participation with charity coffee sales, public welfare project roadshows, coffee skill shows, coffee culture promotion, and cosplay. The activities will roll out across the city through September 8, with the participation of about 150 coffee brands, nearly 1,000 cafes and shops, and coffee booths at the bazaars.
The bazaar in Changning attracts many people, with barista Shen Cheng selling items like thermoses, coffee bean bracelets, and canvas bags made by children with autism or Down syndrome. The funds collected will be used for charity purposes. Menggongfang Cafe, which translates to Dream Workshop, offers internships and employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities from Pudong New Area Special Education School. Young people with intellectual disabilities have learned coffee-making skills here, and they have become baristas or clerks at places like Starbucks.
Shen believes the workshop provides a growth environment different from that of a school for young people with intellectual disabilities, where they might face setbacks in the work environment but learn to understand society. He believes that customers treat them equally and feel their loving heart. They have also participated in other activities like coffee culture festivals and hope to help other special groups and convey the message of love.
Chinese actor Zheng Kai is the event’s charity ambassador, encouraging people to add care to the charity cause, turn a cup of coffee into a card conveying the warmth of the city, and support and care for migrant children and children with autism with practical actions.
