Tanzania ranks third in Africa for coffee production, following Kenya and Ivory Coast. The Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture in charge of Cooperatives and Irrigation, Dr Stephen Nindi, announced this at the 15th general meeting of the Coffee Board in the country. The government plans to seek coffee markets in various African and international countries to economically support farmers and increase revenue. The goal is to see Tanzanian coffee used in various places, and Dr Nindi has instructed cooperatives to cooperate with the Coffee Board to address the challenges faced by farmers in the coffee industry. He also called on NGOs to create agendas to help farmers take action in their coffee farming activities. The government will continue to cooperate with coffee stakeholders to ensure the crop contributes significantly to the country’s economy, including increasing national income through domestic and foreign sales. Dr Nindi called on the Coffee Board to address the challenges faced by farmers to increase production and meet the local and international coffee markets. Coffee Board Director Primus Kimaryo stated that the board is strategizing to strengthen the crop and achieve production goals.
