Rising Global Prices Have Doubled Uganda's Coffee Earnings In The Last Year – CoffeeTalk
Uganda’s coffee earnings have more than doubled in the past 12 months due to a national drive to increase production and meet rising prices. The country has been working to quadruple output to 20 million 60-kilogram sacks of the bean, with authorities providing seedlings and directing resources towards soil-fertility management, tree rehabilitation, and farmer training. The efforts have paid off, with Uganda earning $2.22 billion in the twelve months through June, compared to $1.14 billion in the previous year. Volumes rose 27% to 7.77 million sacks, on track to meet this marketing season’s 9 million sack target. Exports in June jumped more than 50% to 1.01 million sacks, the highest monthly shipments by the country, and the value climbed 78% to $289.6 million. High prices have driven production and incentivized people to plant the crop, with more high volumes expected in the coming months.
