Brazil’s Coffee Crop Estimated Up 5.4% at 69.9 Million Bags, Says USDA

Brazil’s coffee crop for 2024/25 (July-June) is estimated at 69.9 million 60-kg bags, a 5.4% increase from the previous season, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Production of milder-tasting arabica coffee is projected to grow more, reaching 48.2 million bags, while robusta beans, used for instant coffee, are expected to increase by 1.4% at 21.7 million bags. The USDA report suggests that the crop could have been bigger due to a dry spell late last year, but beneficial rains earlier this year allowed trees to partially recover, providing good conditions for bean development. Coffee harvesting began in April and is expected to peak in June and July, concluding by September. The USDA expects Brazil to post another high volume of exports in 2024/25 at 46.65 million bags, up 2.4% from 2023/24. The department slashed its projection for Brazil’s coffee ending stocks for the 2023/24 crop to 2.88 million bags due to higher exports.
