A gang of over 10 people broke into a coffee factory in Kenya, tying and injuring two night watchmen before stealing 26 bags of cherries valued at $14,000 USD. The theft occurred at the Togonye coffee factory in Murinduko ward, where the thieves allegedly cut open the main store and stole the cherries. The watchmen were guarded by over 10 people who were armed with crude weapons. The thieves then loaded the cherries into a lorry and untied themselves after ferried the product. The Urumandi Coffee Cooperative Society chairman, Patrick Gicobi, said the theft could be a reality due to the high coffee prices. The management of the two factories, Mururi and Togonye, has called for the police to investigate and arrest the culprits. Police officers arrived at the scene and have launched investigations. The stolen coffee was dried and was supposed to be sold tomorrow. This is the third incident in the Togonye coffee factory, leaving farmers with nothing.
