What to Know About ‘Ongoing’ Coffee Recall Impacting Dozens of Canned Products
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has deemed a nationwide recall of 20 canned coffee products, distributed through various coffee roasters and retailers, to be a “Class II”. Snapchill LLC, a Wisconsin-based company, voluntarily recalled the products in June after learning its manufacturing process could lead to botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning. Botulism is a rare but serious illness that can cause difficulty breathing, muscle paralysis, and even death. The FDA determined the ongoing recall to be a “Class II” situation, meaning the use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. The Class II Recall applies to 20 different coffee and tea products, making up more than 10 million cans. The recalled products were sold nationwide under various roaster and brand names and in various metal can sizes. The affected products should either be destroyed or returned to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund.
