Denver University’s Coffee Club is a new initiative that provides students with a chance to relax and enjoy coffee. The club was created by first-year Nick Allen, who aimed to foster a community of coffee lovers. Allen’s passion for coffee began during his senior year when he and a friend decided to try 20 different cafes and rate them. The idea for the club was inspired by his father’s love for coffee and his interest in the subject.

Despite facing funding challenges, the Coffee Club has been successful, with over thirty members attending its first meeting in the Dimond Family Residential Village room 195. The club is not only about drinking coffee but also learning about the drink. Every week, someone presents a presentation on their choice of coffee. For example, freshman Martin Tobon presented his family’s Colombian farm, while President Allen and Vice-President Aidan Rosenthal-Pitts discussed the monopolization of coffee chains while treating members to Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts.

The main goal of the club is to expand beyond DU’s campus by touring a roastery and trying cafes in Denver. The club meets every Friday at 11 a.m. and this week’s meeting will feature coffee from the Wagon Coffee Roasters, a sustainable and eco-friendly women-owned business that helps women in recovery through employment. To join, students must register on CrimsonConnect and embrace the club’s mantra: Drink coffee, talk coffee.
