United Airlines is introducing a new in-flight menu featuring cold brew coffee, made by Italian coffee manufacturer illy. The beverage is brewed for 12 hours before being sealed and distributed to passengers. The official launch is scheduled for July 1, but travelers flying between New York / Newark (EWR) to Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO) can preview the brew on red-eye flights between now and July 3. The beverage will be available on flights longer than 300 miles, which is a majority of their mainline routes, for $6 a can. illy’s President of North America, Jack Edwards, expressed excitement about the partnership and the opportunity to share the illy experience with a wider audience. Cold brew and cold coffee beverages have gained popularity in recent years, with Starbucks reporting that cold beverages reached 75% of all drinks made during part of the summer 2023. Other travel brands have also started adding cold beverages to their menus, such as Chase Sapphire Lounges in airports like JFK and Logan.
