The Coffee ザ・コーヒー opens first Australian location – BeanScene
Manly has a new coffee hotspot, with Brazilian chain The Coffee ザ・コーヒー opening its first Australian location in the Sydney beachside suburb.
Founded in 2017 by brothers Alexandre, Carlos, and Luis Fertonani, The Coffee styles itself as a Japanese-inspired Brazilian specialty coffee shop.
Over the past eight years, the brand has grown to hold more than 250 locations around the world, including in Austria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
According to The Coffee’s website, it is set to further expand in Sydney, with a location in Surry Hills currently listed as “coming soon”.
The brand’s launch in Australia follows the announcement of the first local store from Japan’s % Arabica, which is opening a flagship venue in the nearby suburb of Bondi.
The Coffee’s move into the competitive Australian market follows what has been an aggressive international expansion strategy, which has seen it open its first stores in Armenia, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, South Korea, and more in 2025. It is also planning to launch in Belgium later this year.
