Millennials Spend More Than Any Other Age Group On Coffee, Including Gen Z – CoffeeTalk
A new study by McDonald’s has revealed that millennials spend more money on takeaway coffee than any other generation, with an average annual spend of over £700. The research, conducted by McDonald’s, found that people aged between 28 and 43 spent an average of £728 on the hot drink in the last year. Millennials spent even more cash for on-the-go coffee than Gen Z, who on average spent £672 a year on the caffeinated beverage, which is £52 less than the older generation.
Baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, spend far less than both younger generations, spending an average of £260 annually on takeaway coffee. The study also found that the average coffee drinker will spend £29,000 on takeaway coffee in their lifetime. However, over half of the respondents would continue to spend on the luxury as they didn’t want to live without it. This amounts to a whopping 515 or 4,123 pints of coffee.
Another survey conducted by OnePoll revealed that around 27% of Brits believe they spend quite a bit on on-the-go coffees. Of one third of those working in offices that offered instant coffee, 37% would rather splash the cash on a “nice” hot drink outside of the workplace. Latte emerged as the most popular coffee-style drink, with almost a quarter preferring it. Cappuccino followed closely in second place, with 21% choosing it as their favorite drink, while 11% put flat white as their number one.
On average, those taking part in the survey believed a cup of takeaway coffee should cost £1.86, nearly half of what the average cup is currently priced at.
