Long-standing Melbourne coffee shop opens second outpost
McIver’s Coffee & Tea Merchants has opened a new outpost in Brunswick, Melbourne, to accompany its Queen Victoria Market location.
The new outpost, located at 284 Barkly Street, will stock a range of bespoke coffees and teas alongside homewares and equipment. McIver’s Owner Cath Underhill started working at her family’s Queen Victoria Market store in 2000 and says she is proud to bring it to Brunswick.
“Our family has spent over 70 years working with customers to find out what they like to drink. We call ourselves ‘hunters and gatherers’ – it’s our job to find coffee and tea that’s unique and delicious and bring it to our customers,” she says.
“Since COVID, so many more people are making their coffee at home and tea drinkers are keen to buy tea in bulk. We’re proud to be a place that has so much variety to offer both die-hard connoisseurs and people who are just starting to brew for themselves.”
The new Brunswick store has been designed as an open, light filled space utilising recycled timber and furniture to highlight the coffee, tea, and homewares. The menu features 20 of the brand’s own permanent coffees as well as five rotating offerings.
McIver’s takes a similar approach to tea, with an expansive selection of custom teas, blended-in-house using wholefood ingredients such as vanilla, apple, ginger, native plants. To accompany the retail operation, the new store will serve its coffees and teas alongside locally sourced snacks.
