Coffee Prices Surged Nearly 15% In July. Tariffs Will Only Push That Further – CoffeeTalk
Coffee prices have surged 14.5% in July compared to a year ago, with the average retail price for a pound of ground coffee reaching $8.41. This is before 50% tariffs on imports from Brazil, the world’s top coffee producer, took effect last week. The tariffs are expected to contribute to retail price hikes of 15% to 20% for ground coffee, and importers may shift to alternative suppliers like Vietnam and Colombia. Coffee prices were already on the rise following adverse weather conditions in leading coffee-producing countries, surging 38.8% in 2024 from average levels a year earlier. Demand for coffee is expected to soar, and higher prices may lead to consumers drinking more coffee at home. However, the question remains of where consumers will continue to consume their coffee.
