Coffee Prices In Greece Expected To Rise By 10% Or More, Government Expected To Roll Out App To Report Profiteering – CoffeeTalk

Coffee and chocolate prices in Greece are expected to rise by 10-12%, according to General Secretary of Trade Sotiris Anagnostopoulos. This is due to a global trend in food commodity costs, with coffee prices reaching new highs in December and chocolate prices in January. Anagnostopoulos attributed the changes to weather conditions and seasonality and encouraged consumers to shop at open-air markets. The government is focusing on protecting consumer rights through increased inspections and the rollout of digital tools to enhance price transparency. The Development Ministry launched a public awareness campaign in April promoting the use of e-katanalotis, an online platform for comparing supermarket prices. A new mobile app is expected to be developed this fall to allow users to report profiteering or deceptive pricing practices at supermarkets. Authorities are also considering setting up a new supervisory body to monitor market conditions and safeguard consumer protection.
