Chinese Coffee Equipment Maker DiFluid Introduces Moment, a Beverage Monitor that Displays Tasting Notes and Changes as Coffee Cools – CoffeeTalk
Chinese coffee equipment maker DiFluid has introduced a new beverage monitor called the Moment, designed for use in specialty coffee to monitor temperature and provide insights into flavor changes as coffee cools. The device is a non-contact instrument that measures the temperature of coffee. It incorporates a system referred to as “temperature-flavor mapping,” which aims to categorize potential flavor stages based on temperature readings. The stated goal is to provide users with data on how a coffee’s flavor profile might evolve as its temperature decreases. The DiFluid Moment utilizes infrared measurement to track temperature in real time. As coffee cools, the device automatically correlates live temperature data with preset flavor ranges. These ranges are intended to indicate potential shifts in flavor perception, such as when certain notes might be more prominent. The device’s display shows the current temperature, indications of the flavor stage, and an estimated wait time until a specific temperature range is reached.
The instrument features a 2.0-inch AMOLED touch screen. Through this interface, users can log their preferences for specific “flavor moments.” This data is intended to contribute to a shared database aimed at connecting users through taste preferences.
Beyond individual use, the Moment device integrates with CoffeeOS, described as a broader data ecosystem. In “Shop Mode,” flavor profiles can be configured centrally and distributed to multiple devices, a feature designed to assist in maintaining consistency across coffee service points. For professionals, “Cupping Mode” allows for the recording of flavor notes at specific temperature points, which can be used to generate temperature-referenced tasting reports. The system also includes real-time device monitoring, displaying information such as battery level, connection status, and operating mode.
The DiFluid Moment aims to offer cafés and coffee enthusiasts a tool to present coffee with temperature-based flavor insights and to potentially support consistency in service.
